London Fashion Week Mens Dunhill

Dunhill, the epitome of British menswear, continued the brand’s tradition of classic tailoring.  Refinement is the word I would use to describe a collection that stayed within all the boundaries. New Creative Director Mark Weston has inherited a brand a strong identity but there was a need to make it more modern.  He did not add any new twists but instead veered to the safe side.  I cannot blame him.   Luxury is about small details that people in the know would recognize.

Casualwear, jackets and other outerwear were on display, some with cashmere and luxury fabrics. The leather goods were traditionally masculine, and modern.   There was a patterned bag that was less about being flashy but trying to have a bit of a contemporary edge.

It is going to be interesting to see where Dunhill goes in the future.

Nigel Cobourn at London Fashion Week Men’s

Nigel Cabourn anti-war protest look themed Army camouflage uniforms from the Vietnam War Era  were his statement this Spring.  The designer celebrated 50 years in the business with a collection inspired by photo famed journalist Sean Flynn.   The pieces were about details, function, wearabilty, and utility with bursts of color for the ladies looks. Nigel focused on the military aesthetic this season with shorts, sheer, and blazers.

Made in England is a mantra for the brand ensuring quality materials including denim and herringbone cotton produced by Blackhorse Lane and Mckintosh Ateliers the pieces are meant to last.

London Fashion Week Men’s

London Fashion Week Men’s Black and Paper coverage of London Men’s Week.

The legendary city is celebrating its 5th Men’s week in 2017.   The charm of British menswear is the level of risk designers take.   Unlike rival fashion cities where classic themes are refreshed, London throws everything in the pot from shapes, colors, and textures for the fun of it with enthusiasm.  The definition of fashion is “being different”, standing out from the crowd, a statement.

The Strand in the heart of the capital is the locale for the runway shows, presentations, and trade fare.

Stay tuned for more coverage.

959 A Black and Paper Recommendation.

I have been a fan of Italian brand 959 from the first time I saw their collection in Berlin at a fashion trade show.   Designer Pablo Ferrari upcycles car seat belts into unique stylish bags.   I have two, whenever I use one there are many compliments and questions because of the eye catching design.  As an accessory, it is different, a moving forward, a new horizon, and sustainable.

Wonder Woman Review

The reviews for the new “Wonder Woman” film been favorable, my question is, why?  At best I found it average.  As far as a super hero film, it introduced nothing new to the genre, a clunking undertaking.  Director Patty Jenkins directed with paint by numbers approach that lacked focus.  Chris Pine was perfectly cast as the dashing Steve Trevor but Gal Gadot as the title character filled the screened with brooding facial expressions proved capable but at times a bit forced in this writers opinion.  Supporting characters were wasted,  standard plot devices moved around from setting to setting.

Good production values CGI effects were lacking in originality.

2.5/5 stars.
