Social Distancing, Not Alone

Are we a little confused about “Social Distancing”? How does one interact with “new fun friends” in the grip of Coronavirus Pandemic?  I have a  suggestion or two.

Let’s face it.  We are all a bit paranoid. Everyday the headlines read like a science fiction film.  If your fun partner has a cough, should you hesitate?   If in the back of your head you are having thoughts of hesitation, YES! Or have plastic wrap ready.

This new virus makes Grindr, Tinder, and all the quick hook up sites a bit risky. A person may require a one week health screening record before getting to 2ndbase. In China there is now a mandatory health rating app for citizens. I get the feeling this will soon come to dating sites.

WELL,, but the old fashion ways are still around. Being hyper connected to a mobile phone means digital fun at your fingertips. Portable, able to move from room to room. For those of us like long sessions, the drawback with mobile phones is the battery life.  Second, only able to use one hand.

Skype never left, it just got regulated to the second tier technology level. Back in the day, this platform was considered a safe encounter space with a camera for visuals and good sound quality. The full picture is available,   handsfree.   Just get in a comfortable place with your laptop or tablet, relax, then cyber fun take you away.

Stay tuned for the next Men Reloaded Podcast.

#Milano Never Stops

Italy is reeling from the Coronavirus outbreak. As fate would have it, I was in the country at the time. The Lombardy capital, Milan, went under lockdown. Suddenly a feeling of panic overcame Fashion Week. A deep sense of unease rippled through out the metropolis. All went silent. Milanese stayed indoors. The bustle stopped.

Duomo

CNN recently added salt to the wound by reporting “affected Global areas from Italy”.  Not cute in my opinion.  Another example of the channel’s Airport Lounge journalism lacking context.

Recently, the fashion house Etro launched the #MilanoNever Stops campaign to promote a positive spirit for an always proud city.

This is from the brand’s Instagram Account:

MILANO NEVER STOPS: ETRO gifted a statement T-shirt to its friends, who were born in Milan or who chose Milan as their home, as a message of positivity and hope. Not available for sale.
ETRO decided to give its contribution to the ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco Hospital, supporting the scientific research, led by Professor Maria Rita Gismondo and her team, to help overcome this moment of global difficulty.

When the next fashion week happens in Milan. We will be there supporting a city that has been good to us.

Milan Mens Week start June 20th.

YOU!

The Major Fashion Weeks are over.  The trend forecasters are writing what we should wear this coming season.

I have never been a big follower of fashion trends regardless of what the runways says. Style is what you wear. How you wear the looks. Go with what is comfortable for you. Never worry about the latest colors or cuts. Individualism means being different. Buying what everyone has in their closet says “follower”.

REALLY!?!

Why are so many fashion journalist selling out? Because they want access. The same trend has been happening in mass journalism. Objectivity has become a dirty word. Life is easier to absorb the Press Release. A designer makes a mediocre or bad collection, a soft critique or bad review is not allowed. Instead there is a sort of praise. Sometimes it feels like lipstick on a pig. Losing the front row, banished to a second row is a glamor don’t.

When a certain NY Times fashion writer labels a designer “this generations,,,,,” I know we are in trouble. Of course pandering comes with the territory. But there are limits. Even if the label buys ad pages. Or has a lot of followers.

As fashion magazines and writers continue to lose sway over the industry they are becoming more desperate to stay relevant. When once a few editors decided on trends, the fashion hierarchy is chasing them. All leaders cling on until the end.

Go Girl

I met Flora Cusi during Milan Fashion Week in September 19. The young bag designer debuted her new bag collection and brand, Yosono, to press and buyers. Engaging with new designers is always exciting because of the enthusiasm. Lastly, the chance to watch the person grow is rewarding.  I hope she makes it.
