London Fashion Week

Collections we liked from London Fashion Week

Felder Felder looks were shiny then moved on short skirts with prints.

Gareth Pugh went for red  then moved to black this season with a collection that was fun if not a bit over the top.

Burberry Prorsum moved into the future with cut outs, mini dresses, and the signature dress coat and laces. The collection lived up the hype.

KTZ went super tribal and sexy but if you take away the over sized ear and nose rings the looks were sleek.

Osman with gaucho inspired looks complete with hats.

David Koma went with hemlines above the knee along with folded strips around the body.

Marques ‘Almeida was daring with ruffles and tearing apart pieces for a complete look.

Toga had a complex collection with many details.

Christopher Kane gets a mention for the neon colors and shapes.

My overall impression of London Fashion Week was a bit underwhelming.  There were many great looks and good collections but the spark was missing this season.

IFA2015 Highlights

There were many highlights from IFA 2015 from smartwatches to smart appliances. The overall theme was connecting not just digitally but also emotionally. Whereas in the past devices were cold and impersonal today they represent our personalities.

Our criteria’s were based on design or aesthetic that caught our attention.   We wanted the gadget to look good. Secondly, the usefulness of the device was important. Lastly, the most important aspect of any technology is usage and functionality.   We looked at the evolution of a product along a brand or category line with an eye on new features and upgrades for better user interaction experiences. The device should be natural to use. The software and hardware should be seamless as well as intuitive.

Our Picks:

Huawei Smartwatch has a nice user interface.

Polaroid Cube

Polaroid Cube red

We had an opportunity using the Polaroid Cube snapping pictures at Fashion Week and Berlinale.

The first impression we had was the eye catching square shape of the camera. Secondly, it is easy to use. One button on top of the device, just click, wait for the red light then green light. Camera images are 6 megapixels. Video and sound qualities are ok. A micro SD card is needed. Downloading  images is simple and fast with the enclosed cable.

The advantage we liked the most about the camera was the size and ability to put it our pocket.

Priced below $100, the Cube is an affordable alternative to expensive other expensive action cameras.

The latest version of the Polaroid Cube with Wi-Fi was launched at IFA 2015 Berlin.

Please go to Black and Paper on Pinterest to see all our images and videos of the Berlinale using the Polaroid Cube or see the images below.

Fall Fashion Trends

Fall Trends from Bloomingdale’s of New York Fashion Director of Ready to Wear Brooke Jaffe.

  1. The color Bordeaux:  A top color for the season, Bordeaux is a rich, warm hue that tends to look good on everyone.  I can’t wait to wear a pair of Bordeaux cords with a great pair of boots and a chunky sweater.   A colored leather jacket is a great update to your fall wardrobe and pairs perfectly with denim in all colors from blue to gray, to black to ivory.  Also, don’t be afraid to try a monochrome look and wear head to toe Bordeaux!
  2. The romantic blouse:  I’m always looking for ways to update denim looks.  The fall runways provided endless inspiration for how to do that with a romantic blouse this season.  I love more exaggerated styles that have a Victorian feel with details like a high neck and delicate lace.  Romantic blouses from Alice + Olivia and Dylan Gray are some of my favorite pieces from our fall 100% Bloomingdale’s collection.  I can’t wait to pair these pieces with a boot cut jean or a black pencil skirt for an updated dinner-outlook.
  3. Plaid and military combinations:  I love mixing a plaid shirt or shirtdress with a military green anorak (such as our exclusive one this season from Velvet).  Continue to pile on the layers by adding a fur scarf.  The combination feels new when styled together this season.  Pairing this look like a leather mini or distressed jean and a more casual boot really completes it.  For a solid foundation, I recommend Rails plaid shirts!
  4. Prints:  I was so excited to see prints dominating the fall runways.  Retro scarf prints inspired by the 60’s and 70’s are making a comeback in a big way this season.  I love these prints on everything from dresses to blouses.  One of my favorites is our 100% Bloomingdale’s Nanette Lepore dress- not only is the print great, but I love the mock neck detail.
