Look Different

I did not know anything about Colorado based sportswear label, Spyder.  During Milan Fashion Week Men presentations I was impressed by the looks. Now owned by a Korean firm, the brand has some intriguing looks  that are both assertive and eye catching.  Getting into a clothing field dominated by Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour, is ambitious.

Carnival Milan Fashion Week Style

Going to an appointment that happened to be across from the Versace Show. HA! It was a spectacle! We did not call Donatello telling her our invite was lost!  But next time!

La Dolce ITALIANA!

If you happen to be in Milan this week make sure you have a chance to see a monumental fashion collection titled Italiana at the impressive Palazzo Real Milano, located in the centre of the city beside Duomo. The exhibition spans the the story of fashion the city from 1971 to 2001 with looks drawing from the cities wealth of designers. Highly impressive and inspiring for anyone who loves fashion.   There is no doubt Milan deserves its place as the CHIC CAPITAL of world. I had goose bumps walking from room to room.

This is the last week, ending on the 6th of May. HURRY!

Beguiling at Doma Domir

I loved this model at the Damir Doma presentation so I waited until she got into a look so I could produce a video of her in one of the designers looks.

Masculine Eye Candy

Belgian designer Dirk Bikkembergs is always about the sexy man.  Spring 2018, staying true to form, the looks favored the man who embraces being looked at in all the right ways, masculine eye candy.   The black looks were my favorite.

A “GUCCITASTIC” Tour

Alessandro Michele showed 107 looks this season inspired by gender fluidity, cartoon characters, Joan Collins shoulders pads, and Elton John.  All of these elements made for an electric collection crossing many lines.

Black and Paper went to the Gucci Hub in Milan to get an up close and personal showing of the collection and pieces.  Beautiful jacquard fabrics with quilted linings that tell a story.

The connections to Elton John were up front and center, jackets s with musical symbols and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” album cover sweat suits.

Signature Gucci Bags were made of strong leather but Python skins stood out.  Everyone will want one next year.

Sweaters were printed with Bugs Bunny and Snow White.  Coltish shorts matched with mid length feminine and masculine jackets were crafted for the athletic form.

Prominent in the collection were the sheer fabrics and terry cloth used for suits.  Lavish fur pelts details were intricate.  Each piece was an inch wide all sewn by hand.

The standouts of the season were the wrinkle and embroidery looks.  Gucci employed special techniques resulting in dazzling effects.  The dress (see below) is pure and simple opulence.

Black and Paper Associate Editor Leah Ahuja is based in Beverly Hills, California.  She was given a one on one presentation of the Gucci Collection during Milan Fashion Week.

Milan Fashion Week Men at Etro

A groove from the past.  Etro looks were funkadelic.  This is what you would wear on a chic Volkswagen Camper ride. Street wear looks went from jackets to loose tailored suits.

Milan Fashion Week Men with Tod’s

Black and Paper at Milan Fashion Week Men at the Tod’s presentation.

Tod’s decided lightweight for the season with looks based on traveling to hot climate destinations.  Quality wise there is no doubt the brand is at the top of its game in the quality department, elegant is in the DNA of the brand, but style wise it felt a bit muddled or at a crossroads.   The new sneakers for the urban wearer were understated but in an age where men express themselves with a certain sneaker style, Tod’s new Gommino trainer looked average.
