London Fashion Week Men’s with Blood Brother

Edgy London based street wear brand Blood Brother presented its collection at LFWM on June 10th.    Designer Nicolas Biela bends casual wear conventions with colors, materials and shapes but makes it all wearable.  The most noticeable look was a black long coat. Judging by the enthusiasm of the youthful crowd at the presentation I would say you can count on seeing a few of his pieces in clubs next year.

London Fashion Week Men’s with Richard James

Savile Row bespoke tailor Richard James presented The Atlantic collection during London Fashion Week Men’s.  Soft colors, along with vertical lines inspired by the 1950’s are how the press release summed up the looks.  I only saw 3 of the 20 looks during the presentation, including a pink double breasted suit which I felt was a bit underwhelming.

London Fashion Week Mens Dunhill

Dunhill, the epitome of British menswear, continued the brand’s tradition of classic tailoring.  Refinement is the word I would use to describe a collection that stayed within all the boundaries. New Creative Director Mark Weston has inherited a brand a strong identity but there was a need to make it more modern.  He did not add any new twists but instead veered to the safe side.  I cannot blame him.   Luxury is about small details that people in the know would recognize.

Casualwear, jackets and other outerwear were on display, some with cashmere and luxury fabrics. The leather goods were traditionally masculine, and modern.   There was a patterned bag that was less about being flashy but trying to have a bit of a contemporary edge.

It is going to be interesting to see where Dunhill goes in the future.

London Fashion Week Men’s

London Fashion Week Men’s Black and Paper coverage of London Men’s Week.

The legendary city is celebrating its 5th Men’s week in 2017.   The charm of British menswear is the level of risk designers take.   Unlike rival fashion cities where classic themes are refreshed, London throws everything in the pot from shapes, colors, and textures for the fun of it with enthusiasm.  The definition of fashion is “being different”, standing out from the crowd, a statement.

The Strand in the heart of the capital is the locale for the runway shows, presentations, and trade fare.

London Mens Week

The city famed for Savile Row is aggressively trying to establish itself as a hub for men’s fashion with a touch of the English Quirky charm of fabrics, patterns, and shapes.

Highlights for us:

Sibling’s Boxing Gloves looks that were  sexy as well as hyper masculine

Hardy Amies stayed classic but in an appealing way with looks that will survive over time.

Matthew Miller decided to go in the cerebral direction with high wait belts and mono colors

Coach went with the urban cool looks, clean lines stripes, and outerwear.

Man had looks inspired the Black is Beautiful period of the 70’s. A hit!

Oliver Spencer’s flair for mixing colors and patterns without going over the top was refreshing.

Tautz I liked it but  did not love it. The oversize coats and brilliant materials stood out.

Alexander McQueen Butterflies and more butterflies on tailored looks from suits to coats.

Burberry Once again the brand played to its British roots with outerwear some based on military looks with red jackets.

Kilgour Constructed clean lines and angled looks give this brand an edge.

Katie Eary Relaxed patterned pajama silk and almost famous looks.

Richard James Outerwear and over sized sweaters were key to a very functional masculine collection.
