Love the Unexpected

During Milan Fashion Week I had a very pleasant surprise. I did not plan on attending this presentation. A friend of mine had to talk me into it. Keep in mind on top of the 100 or so appointments I had on this day adding another was not something I wanted to do. I decided to go along with my friend to the presentation. Great surprises come from the unexpected. Curiel started in 1945 as a dress maker for the La Scala Set in Milan. Since that time the brand has stayed true to its origins. Making dresses representing LA DOLCE VITA! Classic, feminine, and beautiful.

I met the 2ndgeneration owner of the label. A wonderful person radiating elegance.   Raffaella told me the history of the her family’s brand.

Going over looks not pandering to the “now” trend went down like a glass of wine. I had to enjoy the moment. Understanding modern clothing is about being seen. Perhaps Curiel would seem old fashion in today’s Instagram scene. No matter, the ultimate test is time. The brand’s heritage looks could still turn heads.

Moneta’s Interpretation

A interpretation of a peacoat, Moneta adds vivid colours to classic outwear.   I grabbed him for a quick review at the presentation.  My verdict,  I liked it. But I may have been biased.

Paris Fashion Week Couture

BONJOUR!

Sorry, I have not been posting. A bit busy on this end playing catch up. Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture felt a bit overwhelming. Covering the event for the firs time started from the moment I arrived at the hotel. I dropped the bags at the hotel in the center of Paris then raced off. My first appointment was in the Vendome. HOT! The only word describe the scene, 32 degrees in a city lacking green spaces. Loud? Yes. Big cities are not places for medidating at 11am.

Rush! Rush! I wore comfortable shoes to get into the rhythm of the French Capital during PFW.

Unlike other fashionweeks Couture week is more exclusive. A smaller crowd of editors, buyers, and clients for one of kind creations.

I got invites from production houses Shout out to Mephistopheles, public relations agencies, and designers.  The Couture Jewelry collection presentation events were also scheduled as well as showroom visits. Four  full days were on my calendar.

Paris is not only a walking city,  but also for running. Seeing fit Frenchmen jogging in skimpy shorts in the Tuileries Garden may seem like a Samantha Jones inspired fantasy but crisscrossing it during the day to make an appointment, well, I could not sit down to admire the sights, too much dust and lack of time.

HOT!

Too Darn Hot!

Did I mention it was HOT in Paris during PFW? The metro was opened for free rides.  Thankfully, many shows and presentation were in walking distance or 3 metro stops away.

Wearing Black was the summer look, not for me. This is a mixture of shameless product placement, sponsorship, and fashion practicality. Cividini loaned me a few silk and cotton polo shirts. Breathable materials saved my life.

Expecting brands tomeet a timetable would ask too much but starting 45 minutes to 1 hour late made keeping a timetable impossible. I missed 3 shows.  Happily, I arranged for re-see’s.

I cannot wait until the next Couture Week.

Enchanted Luxury

Sponsored by Canon Germany

Luxury brand Serapian invited me to their presentation during Milan Fashion Week. The setting impressed me.  I wondered if a certain Hollywood actress would come down the marble stair case.

A quick look at the Serapian collection.

These are classic pieces that will be in style for a long time.

Casual Luca L.

During Milan Fashion Week Men I popped over to Luca Larenza presentation. Other than being a nice guy, the menswear designer leans toward the casual side of mens fashion. The collection is leisure wear with retro looks. I admit this was not my favourite from him. I liked his winter looks more. If a man is looking to relax without effort. These pieces are for him.

Jacket Cozy

From Milan Fashion Week Sept 2018.  Luxury outerwear Herno presented its new womenswear collection.   I like color on a person, HA! I found the use of a wide palette refreshing.  Stand out in elegant way.

Fanny Pack,,Not!

The fanny pack has become a luxury brand staple. An accessory once regulated to streetwear to brands like Nike and Puma. Luxury makers have recently picked on the trend by introducing their own versions. Louis Vuitton’s 1500 euro item sets the standard in the fashionista category. My opinion: I will never own one.   Do not get me wrong, , except for jogging around the park. Using one for every day use is my style. I don’t wonder how a sportswear piece graduated to the luxury leagues. Fashion has moved in every direction.  Items once not a part of a brand’s DNA are now key drivers of collections.

Never could I imagine wearing a fanny pack as a fashion piece.  Especially, one emblazoned with a designer logo protruding from my waist. The feel is tacky, gimmicky, a here and now item that will become a dated fad.

I use bags because I carry around a PC, camera, cards, and everything needed for business. A small, overpriced piece of leather does me no good.  I recommend getting a full size bag that will last with time.

Byblos Northern Lights

Forgive the crazy review. When I arrived in Milan on Wednesday morning of Fashion Week the schedule went off the rails quickly.

The Byblos winter 2019 was suppose to be the 3rdshow of the day for me. A tad wind blown when I arrived to the location by press shuttle, I knew the brand but had no clue what to expect. Navigating through the crowds to get to the door I made my way to my seat in a white event area.

Creative Director Maniel Facchini was inspired the by the colors and science of Auroras Borealis according to the press release. Another aspect of the collection was the use of sustainable materials. Recycled bottles for accessories along with nylon made into outerwear looks are brands eco-friendly direction.

Moving from puffer jackets to skin tight dresses the brand is positioning itself as high end sportswear and streetwear for the bling set. Embellishments, geometrics prints, 3D projections were on full show.

Hockey knee pads, knee high boots, furry booties, and chunky sneakers rounded out the get noticed footwear.

The Final Walk

With model Winnie Harlow strutting the catwalk , Byblos is chartering a new course, upping its profile. The brands flagship store on Via Montenapoleone opens this Spring.

My overall impression of the collection: all about youth, on the street.
