Buy Fab! Return Later!

Inside many of us lurks an Elisabeth Taylor trying to get out. Glamour requires the right clothing. Everyone wants to lead a glamorous life. Getting the right looks are a part of the formula, overcoming the obstacle of costs is simple: buy today, wear tomorrow, return the day after tomorrow.

During Fashion Weeks the “outfit of the day” is crucial for getting noticed by street style photographers. Dressing like a brand groupie gets the shutters clicking while standing outside the show. Getting the attention of a Getty or Vogue Photographer is the ultimate badge for an Instagram post. The lust to appear a part of the “in” crowd. I have often asked how do some afford looks and pieces. They can’t.  All a part of the plan to keep up an appearance, to get noticed. Look at what I am wearing!

Buy the latest bags, coats and other pieces online or for those bold enough, at a store. Wear it once with the tags carefully pinned inside, show off the fashionista devotion, the fabulousness. Then return for a full refund. The style of a legend does not come cheap but can be obtained during a return policy window. “OOTD”  went to the next evolutionary level.

Buying online from one of the many high end portal sites is the easiest and most face saving way to become an instant luxury label horse. The return polices are liberal, the reason for not wanting the purchase; no excuse needed.

Not everything worn is real or even owned.

Fabian Goes Relaxed

Playing it loose and flowing at Milan Fashion Week.  For Spring 2019, Italian brand Fabiana Filippi looks had a feeling of a past holiday on a cruise to a far of exotic place. The type of woman who packs an elegant steam trunk for a voyage involving cocktails in the evening. To have such a life is the stuff movies.

A collection made up of cottons, linens, and silks were perfect for those who do not like over doing it.  This is about being understated while relaxed.

I was unfamiliar with Fabiana Filippi before I saw this collection. The white double breasted suit is my favorite.

London Fashion Week Men

My London Fashion Week Men impressions are so far so good. As always, even in middle of the Brexit Crisis, the city finds its creative spirit, edgy, off kilter. The weakest of the Menswear week, London has proven to be one of residence. Enlisting big names, Beckham, Dandy, and a Prince, to give lift into the big leagues with Milan and New York. As a person who is inspired by menswear I always think of London as experiementation, risk. That what makes it a great city compared to the others.

A quick review of the highlights

Kent & Curwen co-owner David Beckham should be proud. The Saville label founded in 1926 produced ties for veterans. Creative Director Daniel Kearns moved effortlessly from military to sporty. The blend of colors and prints were on this side of classic by very imaginative.

Iceberg decided to go all over with knitwear and looks based on skiwear. Prints and more prints radiating sharp colors.

Craig Green has consumed too many energy drinks. Deconstruct, over the top florescent colors that looked like packing material. The headpieces seemed a bit oriental or from a religious ceremony.

Per Gotesson has an interesting take on the modern man. Just cut it at an angle. I liked pieces more than looks from the new designer. The subdued color palette was overset by bold sexual themes.

Daniel W. Fletcher proved wearable is not dull and gender is still in style. Denim, suits, and outerwear all come together for 22 looks that feel modern.

Raeburn interwove military with utility looks and material. The 10thyear of the brand means something is going right. Not high fashion but street fashion. Masculine forms, but comfortable in the unisex category for the gender free crowd, I understand the success.

Stop The Violence!

Fashion violence has many victims. There is no better example than attending a fashion show of a well known brand. Witnessing the spectacle of a heard of victims all gussied up for display, showing off their logo loyalty.

Flash back to the 1980’s, as luxury houses started to become more “mastige”, accessible to masses through licenses, everything started having a designer logo. The first, Paris based designer Pierre Cardin signed over his namesake signature to everything from terrycloth shirts to baseball caps.   Sadly, the brand lost its luster, becoming a joke, then irrelevant.

Fast forward 2010, while having a cafe in Sloan Square, London, I witnessed one victim after another walking by overtly wearing designer brand this, designer brand that, proud fashion violence victims. They had no scars or bruises, just very visible labels.

From Milan Fashion Week

During the past fashion season I walked past the Fendi show in Milan. Fashion Violence victims were numerous. Throw a people you would have hit three. Do not misunderstand. I adore Fendi and Mr. Lagerfeld’s work. As the creative director, he has done a masterful job of keeping the brand modern and relevant in the social media age. The luxury label is now bling, bling with its “double F” logo on diverse merchandise.  However,  This is where the violence starts for me.

I saw so many fashion attendees wearing Fendi from top to bottom, the complete collection. I wondered, was this a fashion show or a Fendi version of a Scientology Cult Convention. My definition of Fashion Victimhood: When a person buys a brand to become an extreme living billboard. Wearing the entire branded look, then throwing in more to top it off! Is this overcompensation behavior occurring? Having to prove garish devotion to fashion by being an over the top caricature. Imagine an entire body branded with “FENDI” references. Rapper Lil Kim with the LV logo painted on her naked flesh comes to mind. Is this fashion or victimization? Fashion Violence victims and Fashion Clowns are the same. I laugh when I see one or the other.

Style icons who wore designer brands were never victims of Fashion Violence. Is there a picture of Audrey Hepburn with the Givenchy logo emblazoned on her look? Think about it.

WHICH ONE?

I could not decide on which card to use.  Each one is a bit different but,,, honestly, is the viewer really going to notice the letters?
