World Cup 2018 is upon us. The biggest sporting event in the world has started in Russia. Teams from all over the globe compete to see who is the best national soccer club. Just in time for the festivities LG recently introduced its latest bean projector, the LG Cine Beam Laser 4K. My first impression, small, sleek, and room friendly. It does not overwhelm a space. The design aesthetic is modern, like an elongated droid. There are two color options: black or white.
A key selling point is the portability. Simply pick it up by the handle grip to move it from one place to another or room to room. It weighs about 15 lbs, stands at 6.5” x 18. 5”.
The picture quality is what you would expect from a high end projector;4K Ultra High Definition with 8.3 million pixels able to project a clear image on a wall, ceiling, or side of a building. Aspect ratio is 16:9 to a maximum screen size of 150”. During the press demo I was impressed with the picture quality. The images were sharp and focus. I could only imagine watching “The Empire Strikes Back” on a large wall, immersed in the Battle of Hoth, that would be an experience.
The LG Smart TV operating is included along with remote control. I found the system interaction a bit awkward at first, it took some time to get use to the movement.
The laser lamp has a life span of up to 20.000 hours. The system contains all the extra one would expect from a device, Bluetooth and wireless connectivity. I cannot give a review of the built in speakers because we were talking amongst ourselves while viewing the presentation.
Thew big downside: This is an expensive device. There are cheaper projector brands. The $3000 price tag makes this a luxury piece of technology, an investment. If you are a tech and tv enthusiast with money to burn, yes!
Commenting at IFA 17, I said LG had been making strides to step out of the shadow of its bigger Korean rival Samsung by introducing compelling products with stronger design signatures matched with higher quality.

The best way to avoid all the issues of data collection and privacy matters, go retro. A classic is always in style. Are smartphones falling out of fashion? The more we learn about data gathering, the answer is becoming clearer. In the Age of Hyper Connectivity, digital arms length is looking like a safer option. Do you need to check Instagram, Messenger, What’s App every 2 minutes to get the latest news on people you do not know?
Another aspect of the feature phones is the battery life, many can go for days without a recharge. No need to carry around a power bank or search for a plug.
The writer has a smartphone but loves his old Nokia phone for its elegance, simplicity, and lack of addictive qualities.
Given the current crisis involving Facebook and CA, Black and Paper has decided to place its Facebook account on hold, no more postings for the moment. Although no laws have been broken, we feel the current level of trust is eroding on the social media platform. Why? It was an open secret about the Data Collection, a price all paid for using a free website, but Facebook continued to push the line and then crossed it without thinking of the consequences of its actions. Hubris has a funny way of biting the butt, even if you are tech giant with 2 billion followers. Facebook’s fatal mistake, taking its users for granted. Zuckerberg’s disarming “Everyday Joe” gray t-shirt cannot cover the fact his creation has become a bit of the creepy neighbor who leers through the peephole when you leave the apartment. Privacy for this company has become an inconvenience. Facebook has evolved into a neo-surveillance operation or serial stalker, wanting or desiring every detail of your life for the sole purpose of selling the information to the highest bidder.
Will we return to Facebook? We are monitoring the situation. Currently, we are looking at alternative sites, stay tuned.
Mark Zuckerberg is schedule to appear before US Congress regarding the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica Affair. The Federal Trade Commision and United Kingdom Authorities have opened investigations concerning its handling of personal data.
ISPO in Munich is a major sportswear fashion trade fair where leading and start up brands come together to show off their latest collections and wares ranging from snowboards to fitness and extreme sport apparel. This year there was an emphasis on sustainability and womenswear.

I used the Canon G1X for Pitti Uomo in Florence and Milan Fashion Week Men. I am not a professional photographer but the quality of pics I made with this camera were great. The look of the camera gave me an expert appearance. It is light weight and powerful.
