An Empire Implodes

I would like to say the images of the seize of Capital Hill Washington DC shocked me. In some way “yes” in some ways “no”. Coming from the American South, traditionally, Whites enforced their wills by storming State and County Houses to enforce Jim Crow laws or worse, for lynchings.

The United States has been on an implosion trajectory for decades. The level of despair, inequality, wars and Covid 19 running wild in a country that failed to looked after its citizens. This dry grass needed a spark. Trump unpacked his flame thrower.

19thcentury painter Thomas Cole painting series “America” shows a proud land similar in mentality of the Roman Empire. All empires fall, Rome’s was brutal. Did the curtain on the American Empire come down on January 6th? Certainly for the “Exceptionalism Theory”, history proves the US will not be an exception.

The governing class got a taste of what could come. Social Media images of protesters taking the building with little police opposition made world wide headlines. Who can forget the picture from Speaker Pelosi’s desk? The shirtless horned hat man has become an international celebrity. Expect media deals after the FBI gets finished with him.

As For The Democrats and Republicans

Could the GOP be repentant after years of deciding only they can govern? After seeing some tepid condemnations and a fiery speech by one House of Rep member. My hopes were dashed. Donald’s 76 million voters made clear they are force to be reckoned. The disciples are waiting for a new leader.

As for the so called “opposition”. Democrats are in the clouds looking for corporate parachutes after “public service”.

Cole witnessed the enthusiasm mixed with arrogance of a newly confident country challenging old world European Empires. The English born artist painted “Consummation” . Meaning consumption and prosperity of a Wealthy Empire. “Destruction”, the forth in “The Course of Empire” series paints a scene of violence, an empire dying. The guy had insight 170 years ahead of his time.

Complaceny was a victim yesterday on the steps of the Capital. Heed the visions from past. Empires implode.

Dems Win,,,AND??

The Democrats will take complete control of the United States Government. The historical Georgia win for Raphael Warnock and possible smidgen of a victory for Osloff are significant. Warnock is the first African American Senator from the state with a long reputation of African American Voter Suppression. Replacing GOP candidate Perdue to represent the old Confederate stronghold in Washington is a bitter sweet victory.

As the country reels from a mismanaged Pandemic, getting rid of Trump moved into righteous zealotry. The Dems played this card because they had nothing to offer a frightened populace other than more fear. Running from the wolf you go straight to the mouth of a fox. The Democratic Party does not deserve this slim victory. Their voters are from a place of desperation with no alternatives.

This same political group does not support affordable healthcare during a health crisis. The shambolic placing of Nancy Pelosi as the head of House of Representative shatters all illusions of some type of relief for the lower 98%. The so called progressive wind of the party or “ The Squad” have been labeled “FraudSquad”on social media for not gaining leverage during the leadership vote.

Prop 22

California, the most liberal state in the country with a Democratic government the immediate of effects of Proposition 22 are clear. The anti labor bill sponsored by tech companies is a new form of labor exploitation. Governor Newsom signed the legislation into law switching gig workers from employees to private contractors with no rights or benefits. Vice President Elect Harris’ brother in law help draft the proposition. Albertsons supermarkets, the nations second largest, fired all union delivery drivers. Handing the service to 3rdparty companies with lower salaried workers. The political plan is to roll out this gem of employment trickery across the country.

As for President Biden, expectations are low. The hopes of a second coming of FDR have faded. The $600 stimulus check looks cruel in the face of such uncertainty. This pitiful amount wouldn’t pay a month’s rent on a two room apartment in a second tier city. Perhaps, the political class does not see the food lines on the news.

The hopes of a Democratic reset, a return to the status quo are fanciful, if not dangerously delusional. Trumpism will strive without its leader. Wishing Covid-19 away is not a policy. The economy is on life support.

The Democrats won. Be as that may, over the next 24 months prepare for disappointment.

Side Note. At the time of writitng there is a recall petition in California to replace Democratic Govenor Newsom. Should organizers reach 1.8 million signatures, a new election is triggered.

Biden Wins, Now What?

Fear. Stress. Disbelief. The scenes playing out in the United States. A President losing an election hunkering down in the White House. What comes next is anyone’s guess. Biden’s wins a tainted chalice.  The 46thleader is suppose to unite the country. Instead he inherits a divided electorate, gridlock in Congress.

Former Democratic Presidential Candidate Marianne Williamson:

The dream of “togertherness”dissipated with an agonizing three day voter count. Coming in second place with over 70 million votes, Trump followers will be in no mood for compromise. Many will nurse feelings of being short changed, marginalised.   Half of the America’s voters did not renounce Trumpism.  The movement will fester, wait for a leader, then spring into action, meaner, madder, with a plan.

NINA

Politician Mrs. Nina Turner says it best below:

Joe Biden is the hapless character of those wanting a return to the status quo. The Democrats have the morale courage of a hedge fund broker. Pelosi and friends will misread the 2020 election, sitting in their elite bubbles, patting themselves on the back for getting rid of an aberration who beat them in 2016 and came close to defeated them again. Having demonized the left, the powers of the party will continue on their hyper neo-liberal highway of personal enrichment at the expense of the desperate working class and shrinking middle class. OH MY! Sooner, not later, the political class will crash into a brick wall. Think Berlin Wall 1989.

A number of Black males and Latino voters turned against the blue side for Donald, as a protest statement. They understand the certainty nothing will relieve their plight.  The 2020 election made many realise the same. Life under a not much loved President Biden will not get better.

Donald Trump was a symptom of a rotting system. One that could be in its death throes.

2024 may see Ivanka Trump make a run for the office. Who’s ready for that?

This voter went 3rd party in 2020.

The Worst Case Got Crazy

What the Hell Happened? We thought 2020 could not get anymore surreal. Guess What? It did. Donald Trump the President of the United States elected in 2016 could not shake off his game show host quality to fit the office. His handling of the Covid 19 virus, then the tanking of the economy should have been the death rattle of his quasi circus act mixed with something loosely resembling leadership. The November 3rdelection should have been curtains down on this act. Mr. Trump did not get the memo. A man of thousand lives seems to survive everything his haters throw at him including a feeble excuse of an opponent in the form of Vice President Joe Biden.

Wrong Again

If the Democratic Party intended to win this election cycle maybe the leaders needed to use a different playbook. What should have been an easy night a blue wave, got darker as the night passed. Two weeks ago according to pollster and media professionals, the President was a sinking ship 10 points behind. The results showed a resurgent Trump with more votes than in 2016. Ever the showman, before the final vote count, Mr. 45 declared himself the winner at 2 am. At 7am Wednesday morning I asked myself, “Why are these people paid?” Once again they  all got it wrong.

The record voter turnout means people care about the process. Nonetheless, the evenly split country offers no easy political answers There will be hard feelings for the losing side. The GOP will dig in. The Democratic strategy of lurching to right may continue attempting to become a GOP lite.  Although the consequences might leave a bitter taste to swallow for the left. But let’s not forget the party gave the left wing the finger.

Biden Will Not Fly

If Trump gets a second term, the DNC recriminations will start immediately. If Biden becomes the 46thcommander and chief, his Presidency will be The Spruce Goose of Washington.  An oddity parked in the White House.  The Democrats gambled and lost regardless of the Presidential outcome. Pelosi, Shumer and company under estimated Donald’s cunning and devotion of his followers. Instead of policies, they gave long press interviews of nothing during a national meltdown.

I guess sitting in front of her $30.000 refrigerator eating a $12 dollars half litter of  ice cream has made the House Speaker a bit disconnected from constituents reeling from mass unemployment, housing foreclosures and health care worries. And what about Obama? His legacy is sealed, nothing more than a transitional figure with a bag of empty rhetoric.

2021 got even more frightening. Which ever candidate wins, we all lose.

Harris for Vice President

I should be euphoric for Kamala Harris as a Vice President candidate. Not really! After going over the record, another Reagan Democrat who stepped on the bodies of People of Color to make her way to the top.  Another follower of  the “Tough on Crime” mantra, code for put more people in jail.  Her infamous record of prosecuting parents of school delinquents left a bitter taste for many families in California.

Contrast this with the prosecutor’s record on going after banks during the 2008 housing crisis. Not a single prosecution. Would it have been difficult to have made a token effort of legal, moral outrage?

Kamala only got 2% of the Democratic primary vote.  African Americans  did not line up behind her candidacy.  Unable to reach the top tier candidate ranks,  Harris quit the campaign race in December 2019.

This Democratic ticket is part of the establishment that drove the country into the ditch.  In conclusion, nothing will change.

I will not support Kamala Harris’ efforts to obtain the highest office in the land.  As a willing accomplice of judicial oppression, she obediently pursued power while ignoring  what it was doing to her people.

This writer will vote 3rd party.

The 2020 America votes happens on November 3rd.  Trump/Pence vs. Biden/ Harris.
