On a recent trip to the wine country of Franconia, I paid visits to two villages with wineries. This area of Germany is spangled with vineyards. The charmed settings made for pleasured experiences. I could not resist tasting a few bottles of wine. One lead to many more. The hosts took pleasure in the samplings.

Just in case if you are in the area, the Franconia city of Iphofen is having a wine festival this week. The romantic walled city delivers a lot of charm and wine.
Need a place to visit over the holidays. If you happen to be in Munich or the Bavaria Region I recommend trying wine country for a relaxing Staycation. There are many charming villages and areas around the Main River.
When thinking of wine tasting, what comes to mind? Romance and sophistication enters the head. In the town of Ipsheim, Franconia, the occasion was more real. A local feel, sitting around a kitchen table with a Lazy Susan in the middle. As we were trying one bottle after another, more people came in, sat down to join. It was as if we were all friends meeting again after a long separation.
I visited Volkach on a late Saturday. Another wine country town situated above the Main River in the Franconia Region of Bavaria. A charming square in the centre, a high tower gate on the main street was picture perfect. I visited the 8.700 habitants municipality on a late Saturday afternoon. Being in the wine growing area, Volkach teems with local wine bars.
A quick day trip to the Franconia town of Dettelbach. The hilly committee of 7.000 nestled in wine country dates back 1300 years. The Medieval aura is complete with a wall and guard towers, some converted to homes.

The charming area around Nordheim. The small Franconia village offers wine tasting front and centre. But that isn’t all-hiking, biking, swimming, and scenic views come with the local destination.
